Self-control is a form of humility. Without humility, a person cannot LEARN, because you cannot teach a know-it-all. Without humility, a person cannot LOVE, because all a narcissist can consider is herself or himself. Without humility, there can be no right RELATIONSHIP to God, who said in Isaiah (57:15) “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with the person who is of a contrite and humble spirit..."

Everybody needs affirmation and recognition. When the ego gets out of control, no one thinks highly of you. Blessed are you when you are able to keep your self in control and that you do not need what comes from an out-of-control ego.
